Most pet owners can agree that our furry friends are just like any other members of our family, so it comes as no surprise that when it’s time to pack our bags and hit the road for a vacation they are included. However, it can be really easy to forget that our little companions require extra thought and care to be comfortable. Throughout this post you will be introduced to a few tips that could definitely make your trip more enjoyable for EVERY member of your family.
1. Make them feel at home
To prevent your pet from any homesickness, pack along some things to make your critter feel at home! Bring along some of their favorite toys. Just as we need things to make us feel at home when we are in a new place, so do our pets! Seeing that they still have some of their favorite things can really act as a comfort. Another thing to consider packing is their pet bed. If you already have a pet bed purchased, then it is no trouble to pack it along. If you are camping, check out this pet bed available at Camping World. It’s foldable, so it will pack easy and can be put out anywhere you choose. Just plop that little bed down, and they have their own piece of home right on vacation!
2. Stop often for bathroom breaks
Assuming you made sure your little treasure was well fed and watered prior to leaving, you also want to ensure they are comfortable on the ride there! To prevent any mishaps during the ride, you should make sure you stop frequently to let your pet stretch their legs and use the bathroom. Just like us, these little guys need bathroom breaks, and it is important that we don’t forget it!
3. Bring a sturdy leash and collar
As I mentioned in tip number 2, you are going to need to stop and let your pet exercise and use the bathroom. There are few things that could be worse than losing your pet on vacation, so to prevent this, make sure you pack along a nice, sturdy leash and collar. The collar on your pet needs to fit nice and snug and should have a strong leash to attach to it. Camping World sells a great selection of pet harnesses in all sizes. These can work especially well on pets that try to squirm out of their standard leash and collar.
4. Bring a collapsible water bowl
This is particularly important if you are traveling in warm weather. Pets get hot very easily and making sure that they stay cool can be a definite help to them on the way to your destination. Packing along a collapsible water bowl can allow for quick and easy hydration! Along with regular collapsible bowls, Camping World offers a “Pet Top” drinking device that attaches directly onto a water bottle providing a convenient way to get water to your pet.
5. Pack a pet fence
Whether you’re traveling in an RV to a place to set up or going camping, this can really come in handy. By bringing along a small fence or pen, you can set up an area just for your pet. This area will act as their own little yard and will keep you from worrying about them getting lost or running off.
