Be prepared to pay about $100.00 + for the mounting brackets
and kit and boot specific to your coach. Camping world says
it is complete, had to go to the manufacturer and another
supplier to get the brackets. See PPL for the straight
scoop and correct advertising for this item. Once I got the
kit it works good. Be sure you tighten it down tight so the
bracket conforms to your axle. Camping world is not
representing this product accurately.
The springs in these units tend to hold the vehicle in the straight position. It works great for hard surface highway driving in good weather. If you hit slick surfaces like ice or hard rain, it can mask the feel of the front tires slipping. You pays your money and takes your choice.
The Safe-T Plus was initially installed for the safety benefit in the event
of a front tire blowout. However it provides a much more relaxed
steering/tracking over varied and undulating road surfaces virtually
eliminating the steering fine tuning while going down the road. A
I had Safe-T-Plus installed on my 1999 Forest River Windsong Class
A and what a difference. Steering control is amazing. Now I can relax
and enjoy the ride without fighting the steering wheel.
We feel safe and in control. You should consider this immediately
and start enjoying a better trip today.
This is a must have. My Class A RV ran all over the road, from left to right and right to left. I had Camping World install Safe-T-Plus and what a diffrence to drive my RV. It feels like a diffrent RV I am driving. Small price for the change in driving it is going to make. Do it right away and you will thank me.
I had this product installed yesterday and the results were impressive. I am new to driving an RV and was basically all white knuckled and always "over steering." With this steering controll, it has basically eliminated all the wandering an RV can do. It tries to stay straight down the road and I have gone from white knuckles to actually enjoying driving my RV and have been able to totally relax and have conversations while driving. I would recommend this product strongly and I am very surprised that manufacturers don't offer this as standard equipment.
Without the Safe-T-Plus Steering Control my Fleetwood 39L DP was a beast that was all over the road anytime a semi or other heavy, fast truck would approach us. Uneven roads and riding the crown was so much work that we could not drive longer than 4 hour days due to the exhaustion. The steering was so sensitive that it was a locked-arm, white knuckle ride, with no interference from whomever was aboard the coach. The installation changed our lives. Driving is now a one handed task with the other free to quaf a coffee or soda. The steering wheel was no longer wondering about the road and corrections were more accurately made without the fear of over correction. The coach handles so much better that my bride is now driving which adds to my comfort which also allows us to get greater distances in a day. Prior to the installation, I could drive 4 hours and would be too exhausted to continue. We routinely drive 10 to 12 hour days at higher speeds because of the ease of handling and the abiltiy to have two drivers to split the tasks.
Our coach, although beautiful, was a hand full to get to any destination. Every passing semi-truck, uneven road, and crowned roads made this a two hand white knuckler to drive. The steering was so over sensitive that driving became a mastery of locking two hands on the way and processing what was coming in all directions. I arrived at our destination absolutely worn out. My wife refused to drive it.
I decided to have Camping World install a Safe-T-Plus Steering Control after a brief discussion with a tech on the phone. All the obstacles to have a safe, comfortable drive where either eliminated or greatly reduced. We enjoy driving our 39' Class A DP. My wife is getting into the joy of driving it giving me breaks from behind the wheel and she has the ability to drive and talk at the same time. How fortunate am I? I also have felt the tension leave and I arrive at destinations relaxed, ready to do whatever my bride has schemed up for me. I can even drink a cold frosty soda or a pipping hot coffee while guiding my baby on the highways at a comfortable 75 - 80 mph.
No kidding, this is a device that no motorhome should be without as it has changed our driving lives. I find it hard to believe that manufacturers do not place these devices as standard equipment.
We just had the Safe T Plus put on the Monaco Cayman with the Roadmaster chassis. It is a noticeable difference but we still get pushed around a bit from passing semis. We still get a little wander from ruts but do feel that it is a lot more solid when hitting major bumps and potholes. Overall it is an improvement but not quite the dramatic impovement we were hoping for considering the $650 price installed. We already did the Bilstiens.............
I too just added the Safe T Plus to my 2005 Dutchmen 24ft Class C Ford E 450 Chassis. I noticed the difference before I got to Interstate 80. It made it so at 65 MPH this motorhome requires half of the driving effort prior to installation. It cut down wandering, movement from wind gusts and could handle the deep ruts on the Interstate 80 freeway to Reno, NV. I had Safe T Plus and 4 Bilsten shocks installed at the same time. I am so satisfied with the combination that I would recomend the installation to anyone with a motor home.

I just added the Safe T Plus to my 2006 Fleetwood 26ft Class C Ford E 450 Chassis. I noticed the difference before I left the parking lot of Camping World. It made it so at 65 MPH this motorhome requires half of the driving effort prior to installation. It cut down wandering & movement from wind gusts. I had Safe T Plus and 4 Bisltien shocks installed at the same time. It was the right choice to impove handling beyond my expectations. Kevin Landrus Santa Rosa, California
The Safe-T-Plus was hands down the best upgrade I have ever purchased for my 2004 Winnebago Brave. The coach is significantly more stable and easier to drive. Cross winds and passing trucks are no longer problems and best of all, I can sip coffee when I drive. Before this addition, I had to wait for conditions to be perfect. I'd strongly recommend one if you are looking for greater stability and control.
About 18 months ago I asked the Camping World performance department personnel in Tampa as to what can I do to reduce steering wandering on a new 2003 Fleetwood RV (F-53). He recomended the Safe-T-Plus steering control shock absorber and the Davis TruTrack Bar. Both were installed and 75% of the wandering problem was eliminated.
A few weeks ago, the Davis TruTrack Bar was removed and the class A RV was driven extensively and there was ABSOLUTELY no difference in the wandering problem. Therefore, the Davis TruTrack Bar had no effect on the steering which means it was a waste of money cause by poor advice.
It appears that the Safe-T-Plus steering control shock absorber is all that is needed and works quite well to elimate at least 75% of wandering problems.
I purchased a 2004 Class C, 28', on a Ford E450 frame. Finished a 3500 trip over Christmas and had to keep both hands on the steering wheel due to ruts, drafts from passing trucks, and cross winds. Came back and went to Denver's Camping World seeking a solution. They put on the Safe-t-Plus Steering Control and four new Bilstien shocks. Unbelieveable! Motorhome drives almost like a sports car. Installation was professional and right the first time. Great solution versus constant steering wheel movement as you go down the road.
Installed the Safe-T-Plus myself. Found the directions to be OK. Mounting was straight forward and relatively easy. Installation requires the steering to be centered but it is easy to adjust if you don't get it exactly right the first time. My biggest problem was finding a straight, level road to test whether or not it was centered.
The Safe-T-Plus and Bilstein shocks turned a rock and roll walrus into a easy driving, almost sports car. Should have done this the first week I owned the motorhome. Wonder why Ford or Winnebago didn't include it as OEM.
Keep your RV going straight easier with less steering wheel compensation for road ruts, light wind and big truck drive by wind. Had a Safe-T-Plus installed by Camping World on 31' class C along with new shocks. Made the world of difference in driving pleasure. Just make sure to have your wheels perfectly straight when installed or you can adjust later with a wrench.
