Description

WINEGARD CO 497
Locking on to your satellite signal is now a one-person operation.
Satellite Signal Meter displays signal strength, according to dish position, with an easy-to-read analog needle and audible tone, allowing you to make necessary adjustments without having to yell back and forth from the window. Quickly installs between the satellite dish and receiver and includes a 3', 75 ohm cable for easy hook-up. Meter is powered by satellite receiver, so there's no additional power connection. Works great with #17018 Satellite Heading Compass.

Satellite Finder

This was a first for me. First time at locating satellite and first time I used this product. It was great. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Just kept peaking the signal meter and found the satellite without any problem. My good friend, who has lots of experience with sat television, also thought the sat finder was a smart purchase. I'm glad I ordered mine from Camping World. It would have cost more had I driven across town and purchased it from a local RV dealer. I love Camping World.

This little device makes finding your TV satellite very easy and you won't need an assistant inside keeping an eye on the set. I much better value than a $600 automatic satellite receiver!

Does The Job

The satellite finder works well for me. The shop that sold me the dish showed me how to use it, but the directions are easy to follow. Have patience! It takes a few tries to get used to it. It's very sensitive because you are focusing on a point in space 22,000 miles away. Since I have HD , I check to make sure I'm getting the correct satellite(119 for Dish Network). I try to preset the elevation and skew and use a compass or other dishes for azimuth. It's then a matter of using the meter to fine tune. The product works fine for me and I recommend it.

Great Unit

At first I could not get it to work. Then I read the directions. I could not get it off of a #1 reading. I turned the sensitivity up to close to 10. I turned it back to 5. From there I just kept letting it max out and turned it back down. When it maxed out and started to drop, I had an excellent signal. I did not have to look at the TV at all.

Purchased this unit to go with my Carryout MP1. Actually, don't have to have but is great for the money. Made set-up easier. TV tells you when it has a signal but this unit will help to fine tune and maximize that signal. Very sensitive but easy to use.

just follow the instructions and it was as advertised. Only concern was I am not sure it is waterproof, I would guess not, so be sure and remove it after you find your signal.

Satellite Finder, Worth the Price if Not on Sale

This unit is connected via coaxial cable between the satellite dish and the satellite receiver satellite input. The receiver provides operating power to the finder, as well as to the LMB at the dish. Power to the finder illuminates the meter light and provides operating power to the RF amplifier that drives the analog meter movement. A sensitivity control knob is used to adjust the meter to be within range of no signal to high signal. (Satellite TV signals are always digital .) Make interim sensitivity adjustment to keep the meter about midrange. After doing an initial aiming of the dish for required azimuth and elevation, use the finder to locate your required satellite, then make small azimuth and elevation adjustments for maximum signal. If you found the correct satellite, the TV will display signal strength or a picture. If a tree or other obstrction partially obscures direct line of sight to the satellite, you may get a lower than optimum signal that is insufficient to view television. The Satellite Finder does as its name implys, find satellites; all of them. It is up to the user to find the correct satellite. We have Direct TV. The signal is adjacent to a stronger one from a different satellite that sometime makes it difficult to find ours. For us, the Satellite Finder is indespensible.

I have had one for years and wouldn't be without it. I have not had any trouble with the cable that came with it. Sometimes I can lock on the signal in seconds - It helps you develope a sense of where the signal should be. The signal finder is compact, easy to store, and easy to use.

If you buy the protable dish .. you need this

I bought this at the same time I got my dish and stand. This will find the signal perfectly if you learn how to use the meter properly; If you set it to high or to low, you either find stray signals or you'll miss the satellite completely. I started high until the noise was constant the scaled it back slightly until it stopped. Then started looking for the satellite. You'll know you've found it when you can adjust the dial back and forth slightly and the signal with adjust accordingly; and finally, your TV is downloading information from the satellite. Great Product, just be patient and learn to dial it in.

Detailed usage instructions

I have used this for a DISH 1000 antenna to lock onto the 3 Echostar satellites at once. Expect this to take an hour the first time you use it. The finder connects between the dish and receiver, which powers it. The dish mast must be perfectly perpendicular to the ground. Use a bubble balance for that. You will need the angles for azimuth, elevation and skew. If you have a single LNB dish, there is no skew setting. The angles depend on your zip code and are in the manual that came with your dish. The skew is the twist of the dish on its center point. Those adjustments are on the underside of the dish. The elevation is up and down and and does not have to be exact to start. The azimuth is the number of degrees the dish rotates on the mast. 180 is due south. 190 is 10 degrees more to the west. Initially, point the dish in the general direction using a compass. With the receiver plugged in, connect the finder to the coaxial RG6 cables from the dish and receiver. When connected, the finder should light up. Turn the black knob until you hear the tone and see the signal rise into the mid-meter position. Make slight adjustments in the azimuth and elevation to see make the signal increase. If the signal goes off-scale high, turn the black knob to bring it to the mid-meter position. You repeat this until the signal is maximized. When tightening up the nuts on the mast and dish, expect a decrease in the signal due to moving the dish. You now have locked on a satellite. But is it the satellite you wanted? To know for sure, you'll need a $250-450 finder, but this inexpensive one works almost as well. Turn on your receiver and TV and go the alignment menu. If you do not have the correct signal, try again. Sometimes, I just can't just lock on all 3 satellites on a DISH 1000 antenna and the reasons can be line of sight (LOS) problems (like trees, mountains, buildings) or lack of a truly perpendicular mast. You can also use the finder to readjust the dish on your home.

Gotta Have One

I messed around for two hours trying to get my dish aligned. I got so frustrated that I did not mess with it for a couple of months and decided to buy this product. I looked at the more expensive ones and then decided to give this one a try. It works great. In just a couple of minutes I had the finder whistling away with a great signal. I even moved it around several times and had the same results. Found a signal and watched TV. It was awesome. If you have a dish, you cant be without this device.

Satellite Finder Works Great

The satellite finder works great and it is easy to use. It eliminates the need to view the television screen during setup. It helps in zeroing in on the satellite for the strongest signal. Adjust the dish until the satellite finder peaks at 10, adjust the finder to 5 on the scale, readjust the satellite until the finder peaks again at 10, and continue this process until the strongest signal possible is obtained.

Excellenty product. BUT read the instructions! This device can't know which satellite to find without at least general directions. There are still some people who think that either the Satellite Finder or their Cruise Control will both drive them where they want to go all by themselves!

Getting the satellite dish lined up will never be a problem again. I can't tell you the time I have spent getting just a signal that would work. Now I get the best possible signal in less time that it takes to connect the wires. This is a great product!

Let me tell you if you are thinking of buying this and are having the thoughts of yeah right! Well let me tell you I thought that way too! But I was amazed at how easy it is to setup with this product! I got my azmuth first and then started using this and wow I got a signal then fine tuned it and I went and checked the T.V. and the signal was over 120%!!! I have the tripod mount and have moved it all over the yard for practice and still great signal!! I would say this is the first product you need in your box of stuff for your Satellite system on the road!

Satellite Finder

We have an RV, but we actually bought this satellite finder for home. We recently had some wind storms and our satellite dish's position had changed, so we were having problems with low signal strength. We've tried to reposition the dish in the past using 2-way radios, but we were not successful. We decided to give the satellite finder a try. It works great! We repositioned the dish and now our signal strength is higher than when we had the dish professionally installed. (Perhaps the installer should have used this satellite finder.) We definitely recommend it for your RV or home.
