Trap minerals to soften water and reduce build-up in your RV water system.
Protect your RV's freshwater system from harmful mineral deposits and enjoy the benefits of soft water throughout your RV. Soap lathers easier; skin and hair are softer. Ugly, hard deposits don't form on faucets or fixtures. In-line Water Softener & Conditioner traps calcium and magnesium that makes water hard and forms deposits. Simple freshwater hose connection between park faucet and RV water entry-no tools required. The fiberglass canister with durable one-piece PVC valve is only 20 1/4"H x 8" dia., so it is easily portable or stores compactly in RV's freshwater bay. Requires no electricity and features a built-in bypass and drain for easy winterization. Uses 6 lbs. of solar or rock salt (sold separately). Salt fill cap in canister dome for easy access. Instructions printed on canister for quick reference. USA.
Have had this for a year + Really happy with it,, does what its suppose to do,,, No problems with the design. Do what the manufacture recommends, will work fine. Also use the water for washing the unit,, no spots
Ive had mine for 4 months now and it really does make a big differance when you
shower. And I have a washer machine and a dish washer and it seems they both work
better since i installed it. Its very easy to install. The only bad thing is depends on how
much water you use but i hve been having to install salt every 3 weeks. That a pain
cause it is heavy and awkward when it is in the basement of trailer. And if your water
presure drops it will leak around the rubber gasket thats around the filler cap where
you put the salt.I would not recomend this to older retired people because how heavy it
is too lift out of the trailer. But it does work very well.
Looked at many options including Callahan softeners. This product tops them all. It fits
in the compartment just perfect. No soap scum or filthy looking shower glass and the
sink area is even better looking with this softener. Regen is very simple and best of all,
the instructions are stamped on the unit. I used some quick connect for the hoses and
its a breez taking out to regen. We have this unit for several months now and we are
This portable water softener works exactly the same way as any expencive home water softener. When traveling all over the country this is the best way to ensure quality water and save the pluming in your MH.
This has been a great product. It installed very esily right out of the box and it provides enough water flow to handle both the shower and kitchen simultaneously. The size and weight allow easy storage for traveling and quick setup.
I purchased this softner in 2008, we take our 5th Wheel Trailer to the Colorado River for 4 months every summer. The water at the river is very hard, we used to get hard water build up around all of our faucets on our other travel trailer so I decided to get this softner with our new
5Th Wheel and it works awesome. Soft water would last about a week before I would have to regenerate but after flushing the system It went right back to very soft water. No more hard water build Up. Thank You
I had purchased this unit around January 2003 and have been using it ever since, well over 6 years. The well water at the RV park where I am currently residing is very hard. This took care of the problem. Less soap needed to shower and do dishes, easy cleanup for the shower and sinks, faucets, everything and anything that this water goes through. I even
clean my 40 foot rig and my Toad using the softened water, it comes out spotless. I would not go anywhere without it. I
don't use this water for drinking or cooking purposes as I use bottled water for that so the salt content in the water
doesn't bother me however I do make ice cubes using the water and I have never noticed any unusual flavor coming from the cubes. I back-flush and recharge about every two to three weeks of use. I can usually sense when it needs recharging by the way the soap reacts in the shower. I have generally used about 6-7 plastic coffee mugs of small granular bagged salt I purchase from the local hardware store for each recharge. The best salt I have found to use due to the size of the crystals is made by Do-It, however I haven' been able to find it at a Do-It Center, only at this specific hardware in Canyon Country CA. Important things to remember is to back-flush each time for about 3-5 minutes,
drain the water out of the tank to allow room for the salt, turn the handle back to the correct position for softening, and run water through the unit onto the ground for about 3-5 minutes before hooking the line up to your RV, Also make sure you allow enough storage room somewhere in your RV to store the softener when traveling, believe me, you'll need it at so many places around the country.
We have had this water softner since 2005 and it works great we do not have the build up of scale around fixtures and the laundry comes out clean and when you shower you feel clean no soap residue left on shower glass enclosure. Best investment we made.
I spend a LOT of time RVing in areas with hard to extremely hard
water. This has made my life so much easier. Showers are soapy
and leave no nasty spots in the shower, which I hate to clean. The
directions warn NOT to use "nuggets" so be sure to use regular salt
crystals or, if you can find any, ground potassium chloride. One word
of caution, if you're using salt, do NOT use a magnesium anode rod
in your water heater. I've found that it will react with the sodium left in
the water and result in hard, black flakes in the hot water that can be
aggravating but not damage anything. An aluminum anode rod will
cure this. Keep a bag of salt handy, and follow the directions, and you
will never be without one of these.
My wife and I live onboard our houseboat and the wellwater at our
marina is VERY hard due to iron and manganese. The softener was
easy to set up and worked for about 7 weeks on the initial charge
before I needed to regenerate. I usually let it get to about 100 ppm
before regenerating. On average, I only need to regenerate about
every 20 days. Keep in mind that we don't use the marina's water for
cooking or drinking, so we're only softening water for washing dishes
and showering. The instructions say to use about 6 pounds of rock
salt when regenerating, but I can't fit more than 4-pounds into the
softener. My wife says she has had a lot fewer bad hair days. The
shower stall no longer has iron deposits and the soap lasts forever.
And strangely enough, the old iron deposits chipped easily off of the
faucets after being exposed to the soft water for a month! Didn't see
that one coming.

My wife was complaing that the park water was too hard and she was having a bad hair day. I installed the softener and now she is a happy camper. The other benifits is that soap gets sudsier and is portable. I took it home to wash my RV and no need to worry about drying the
vehicle it drys virtually spot free. It is very easy to install.
We purchased our softener on the recommendation of a fellow
full time RV'er here in our park. The water in our RV park in
the city of Greenwood BC Canada is well water and very hard
(200 ppm). We installed our softener, flushed the lines and
checked the hardness (0 ppm). We are very happy with the
excellent instructions and the ease of hook-up. Great
product! Herb and Ardy Jones
The Seasonal campground that we are at has extremely
hard water with a bad sulfur odor and this softer
takes care of it all!!
But i have only been using it for a few weeks and
will add another review after a few months
We have been full time for over 15 years. We have used this product
for about 10 of those years. Couldn't be happier with it. We use the
Morton pellets in the blue bag that you can find at Ralph's. About 10
days before you need to put more salt in. Works great in Ariz. or Calif.
Don't over tighten the plastic cap. Just needs to be just a little more
than finger tight so it doesn't seep around the cap. If you over tighten,
the cap will twist off and leave part of it in the hole. That was my fault in
We are full time RVers, From opening the box to having soft water
was 2 hours, put a carbon filter prior to the water softener as well. It is
great, no more scrubbing the shower glass to remove the white spots
and scale. The clothes come cleaner with less soap. Lovin it.
Installation easy but no information on how often unit needs
to be recharged (one week, two weeks, three weeks or four
weeks?) Water is extremely hard in Arizona but went to
lowest rating within an hour after unit installed.
Like the other reviewer we are also full timing and love this water
softener. We are in an area that has very hard water and this unit can
get us down from 950 to 0 hardness. It lasts for approx. 2 weeks
before we add salt.
Great unit! I wouldn't travel without it now that we are fulltime RV'ers.
The water in our Rv is better then bottled..
We filter with a Carbon filter in-line before the RV1200 and use the ADC Water filter in the kitchen for drinking, etc.
Soft water is much better for your Rv than hard water. No more scale buildups in your pipes, white scale buildup in the shower and on all your faucets and shower-head, and no build-up in your water heater. Water is VERY hard throughout all the west and especially the southwest with only a very few places in the east where the water is naturally soft. Water softeners work by exchanging sodium ions for calcium and magnesium ions in the hard water. When the sodium ions are all depleted and the resin in your softener is contaminated with calcium and magnesium ions, you recharge your softener by adding salt, which the sodium ions replace the magnesiun and calcium ions on the resin, then the salt is flushed out. Very few people can actually taste the sodium ions in soft water, as the actual salt is flushed out, but if you have high blood pressure, you should not use regular salt (sodium chloride) to recharge the water softener. You can buy Potassium Chloride at Albertsons, some Home Depots, etc, but you have to break up the pellets (a lot of work) or pay a LOT for small quantities of granulated in the salt section of grocery stores. It adds less than the equivalent of the potassium in a banana in 8 large glasses of water a day (that's what we should drink, but most people drink a lot less). Potassium Chloride is still salt and will still have the same taste as Sodium Chloride, but, again, few people can taste the salt in the water unless you did a poor job of flushing the salt out. Also, all good under-the-counter water filters will filter out any salt taste (and any chlorine taste) for drinking purposes. In fact, Camping World has a filter that will actually make better water than an RO unit filtering out all taste, bacteria, and viruses (if you're a finicky water drinker).
Not only does this soften some of New Mexico's worst hard water, but the customer service is some of the best ever encountered. The owner/management answers questions on the phone and responds to problems immediately. Ours was damaged in transit and they sent out replacement parts the same day I called. I would recommened this softener or any of there larger units to my best friends.
I find myself in southeast New Mexico frequently where the water is off-the-scale hard. This little gem softens it right up! No more nasty calcium deposits, water spots or sticky showers. If you've never user a water softener before, it softens the water by processing it through salt, so the water is not too tasty for drinking or cooking, but it will make life a lot easier, and prolong the life of your water heater and plumbing. It needs to be back-flushed every couple of weeks and new rock salt added. If the salt is a real problem, potassium chloride crystals are available at a higher cost.....soft water without salt.
I've used this softener for 4 years and it is great. Would not be without it. But it got better when I added an outomatic recharge head from Water Packer on it. CW does not carry them unfortunately. now it takes care of itself.
By the way, we use our 5th wheel 4-6 months every summer.
We saw someone using one of these at a campground, and bought ours as soon as we could get to CW. We've had it about 3 years now. One recharge lasts us for a camping season for occasional weekend camping with a vacation thrown in, I'm not sure how long it's going to be before I have to recharge it this year as I am using the RV as a "portable apartment" for a contracting gig I'm on. I don't hook up to park water without it!!!!!
I purchased this water softener for my husband as a Chirstmas present. We have a fifth wheel camper which we use during the summer months on a small lake. Unfortunately the water is extremely hard in the area, and it was virtually impossible to wash dishes and not end up with spots. You can only imagine what taking a shower was like.
It was easy to hook up, and has made our lifes much more comfortable. We had been looking for a softener at nearly every RV show we went to, but no one carried any. Finally someone suggested I try the Camping World Web site. Glad I did.
We would highly recommend this softener to anyone who is in area's where hard water is a problem, lots of Iron, calcium, ext. We have been using our water conditioner now for one year. We love it. Our normal camping area has so much iron that it would stain the RV sinks, shower, and toilet with in two weeks. Since using the water conditioner we have not had one stain or problem.
One fill of salt will last about 6 weeks with two people taking showers every day. System come with test strips. It was impressive how bad our water was and now how good it is.
We have also traveled with the water conditioner, it is easy to set up and take down.
How often do you have to regenerate this softener?
by AnonymousMarch 24, 2013
This is rated for up to 2,000 gallons of water before regeneration. Please see the information chart at the manufacturer's website; http://www.frakco.com/TravelSoftSodium.html
