At Your Service: Discount Camping

February 2011 RV Tips and Advice by

Saving money on campground fees is a sure way to stretch your camping dollar so you can enjoy more camping all year long. A number of programs are available to save you money at thousands of campsites nationwide.

Good Sam Club
Among the most popular camping discounts is the Good Sam Club 10% discount at participating campgrounds. Good Sam Club members save 10% off the regular nightly camping fee at over 1700 Good Sam Parks in the U.S. and Canada.

The camping discount is just one of the many benefits of belonging to the Good Sam Club. Other benefits include specialized RV trip routing; a free subscription to Highways magazine; free consumer advocacy assistance on RV-related products and services; annual Good Sam Days discounts at Camping World; 24/7 access to online resources and tools, club activities at the local, state and national level plus discounts on other RV-related services. For more information about the Good Sam Club, visit GoodSamClub.com.

President’s Club members save 35% on a one-year Good Sam Club membership. To join, visit CampingWorld.com/goodsam.

Camp Club USA
To save up to 50% on nightly fees at top-rated campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada, become a member of Camp Club USA. Over 1000 parks currently participate in the network, with more campgrounds being added weekly. Participating campgrounds are inspected annually to ensure that they meet membership requirements. All parks have a quality level of a Woodall’s “WWW” rating.

For 2011, participating Camp Club USA parks are identified in the Woodall’s Campground Directory. Members also enjoy anytime access to an online campground finder, the latest additions to the list of participating campgrounds, trip routing and more. For more information about Camp Club USA, visit CampClubUSA.com.

Membership Camping
Another way to save on camping fees is to join a membership camping network. When you join, you will pay a one-time fee for access to a home park. You then pay annual dues, which entitles you to stay at your home park plus a network of affiliated parks at low or no additional cost.

Buy-in fees and annual dues vary by network. Typically the initial fee is a few thousand dollars and annual dues a few hundred dollars. The more you use your membership network parks, the more you save. Your membership is usually transferable like any other investment.

The advantages of membership camping include the peace of mind of knowing you will have a site to camp in at your destination or while en route. Some networks let you make reservations by phone or online; others require no reservations because they reserve spots nightly for members’ use. By being a member, you don’t have to compete with other campers for campsites near popular destinations or during peak seasons, and you will pay only a fraction of the cost in nightly fees as other campers will pay in non-membership campgrounds.

Membership parks and campgrounds also tend to have higher levels of security, and may also offer better amenities. A membership campground may offer a true rustic camping experience or a full resort atmosphere, depending on the park and its location.

President’s Club members can enjoy a free three-day stay at select membership campgrounds to see if they like what membership camping has to offer. To find membership campgrounds participating in the no-obligation Free Stay program, visit CampingWorld.com/freestay.
