Many RV enthusiasts spend a lot of time on their computers. They map out trips and get directions before travelling, use email to keep in touch with friends and family while on the road, pay bills electronically and download and store the pictures from their latest adventures. But how can you ensure your computer and your information are safe while you're on the road? FulltimeRVer.com offers some helpful suggestions.

First of all, don't leave a laptop or desktop computer out in the open for potential thieves to see. Always hide it when you're away from your site.

It's important to have strong passwords for your computers. Don't use things that people will be able to figure out easily like your pet's or grandchild's name. The longer the password the better, and consider mixing numbers and letters for maximum security.

Consider buying encryption software to keep your data safe if your computer is stolen or hacked into. You can learn more about what type is best for you and your needs online or by visiting your local computer store.

Back up your data before it's too late. Important documents, photos and data files should be duplicated and stored somewhere other than your computer. Back up systems are available at computer stores and online as are small thumb drives that will keep all your information in one place.
