Cook like a pro in your RV

November 2009 RV Tips and Advice by

The kitchens in many of today's RVs are anything but modest. Granite countertops, high-end appliances and even dishwashers are the norm on the road for some. No matter what your RV's kitchen is like, there are some helpful tips for cooking while on the road.

Planning ahead is key. Make casseroles, sauces, meatballs and side dishes ahead of time and freeze them. It can be especially helpful after a long day of driving to be able to put little effort into getting dinner on the table.

Marinate meats for grilling ahead of time and pre-measure dry ingredients for things like breads, pancakes and other baked goods. Store them with directions for what needs to be added in large plastic storage bags.

Foil packets make mealtime easier as well. Use them to cook meats, vegetables and potatoes. Just add a few seasonings and cook them over an open fire or on an outdoor grill. The clean-up is a cinch!

Some campers say a slow cooker is key for cooking on the road. Assemble the ingredients in the morning and your meal is done when you return to camp.

It's a good idea to stock your RVs kitchen with items that will help make meals come together quickly. Pre-washed lettuce, pre-cut fruits and vegetables, shredded cheese and canned chicken and fish can easily be turned into quick and healthy meals on the road.
