Winnebago to offer plant tours
RV manufacturer Winnebago will start offering tours of its Forest City, Iowa plant beginning in April.
From April 5 through October 29, the company will offer two tours each day - at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be one tour per day in November, at 1 p.m.
Each 90-minute tour will begin in the company's Visitor Center, where attendees will watch a 20-minute video of the RV manufacturing process. Then, a tour bus departs for a drive-thru of the company's grounds. It ends with a walking tour of the chassis weld facility and the main production area.
Tours are free and all ages are welcomed. However, visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The Visitor Center is accessible to individuals with disabilities but there are several stairways in the factory area. Reservations are recommended for groups of more than six people.
The location is also home to the Winnebago Industries Museum, which chronicles the company's 52-year history, as well as the design and construction of its motorhomes.
The Forest City manufacturing facilities have previously been featured on National Geographic's "Ultimate Factories" and the Discovery Channel's "How It's Made."
