Advice for buying an RV

January 2010 RV Tips and Advice by

If you're already an RV owner, you know that there are a lot of options when it comes to purchasing a recreational vehicle. From price to size to floor plan, the options are seemingly endless, and there are a few things to think about if you're a first-time buyer or a veteran owner looking for a new RV.

NewRVer.com suggests thinking about how you plan to use the RV before making a purchase. If you know you'll be doing a lot of backwoods camping, you may want to consider a smaller RV like a pop-up trailer, truck camper or hybrid. If you're planning on driving a lot and not spending too much time in one place, a motorized RV might be your best bet. And, if you're considering becoming a full-timer and want a larger, more luxurious model, a fifth wheel trailer or motorhome may be appropriate.

Choosing the right floor plan or layout is also important. If you find a particular RV you like remember that there may be different floor plans available. Consult your dealer or the manufacturer for more information.

Price can also dictate what type of RV you purchase. Know your budget before shopping so you can eliminate vehicles that are out of your price range, and remember that purchasing a used RV can save you 30 percent or more.
