Mississippi RV park luring snowbirds back

More than four years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, there are signs that business is picking up and snowbirds are returning to the Mississippi coast.

WLOX reports that the Cajun RV park, located on the Biloxi beachfront, is trying to rebuild its pre-Katrina business by luring winter RVers back.

"I think in the long run, most everything is going to get done," said the park's general manager Jonathan Mikovich. "It's just taking a lot longer than people anticipated it doing. Everybody that's coming into the park and is traveling into the area has absolutely noticed the improvements from year to year. Especially this year, a lot of people haven't even mentioned Katrina at all, so that's really a great thing."

Staff at the park says FEMA trailers, contractors and extensive storm renovations kept the park from doing any commercial business up until now.

Mikovich tells WLOX that bookings were strong over the New Year holiday and that he has high hopes that snowbirds from the colder northern states will continue to keep the park busy this winter.

The Biloxi area is known for its beaches, casinos and southern hospitality.
