Campground hosts needed in parks across the country

January 2010 RV Industry and Lifestyle by

RVers interested in volunteering their time in exchange for free RV campsite hookups at state parks across the country this summer should start exploring their options.

The state of Michigan has announced that it is seeking campground hosts for the 2010 camping season.

Campground hosts do a number of different jobs at the parks they volunteer in, ranging from directing visitors to their campsites, answering questions about the park, arranging campground activities and performing light maintenance and other services.

Hosts are required to work a total of 30 hours over five days each week, including weekends, for at least four consecutive weeks.

While many individuals return to their previous campground host positions year after year, officials say more hosts are needed to fill vacancies.

California is also seeking hosts for the summer season. Volunteers there need to work a minimum of 20 hours each week in exchange for an RV campsite.

Individuals should know that some states, like Alaska, have fast-approaching deadlines for summer campground host applications.

Individuals interested in volunteering their time at various park systems this summer can find information and openings on various state park websites as well as through workamper.com or camp-host.com.
