Expert's tips on preventing RV water damage

Like in your home, water damage in a motorhome can cause big problems and be very expensive to repair. Even worse, sometimes owners don't even know there's a problem until it's too late.

RV author, technician and repair expert Mark Polk says the most important thing you can do to prevent water damage in your vehicle is to thoroughly inspect it at least twice a year for potential leaks. According to RVTravel.com, Polk says it's especially important to look for water damage before storing your RV.

Owners should look for discoloration and soft spots to determine if their RV has a leak. Among the most important parts to check are around vents, windows, doors, slideouts, and roof seams. Polk also suggests locating items like the water heater, furnace and water inlets outside and then checking the inside of your vehicle where they're located for signs of damage.

It's also important to check outside storage compartments for leaks.
If you find a problem, it's important to take care of it immediately to prevent further issues. Consult an RV repair expert or dealer on the best remedies, including which sealants are best for certain materials.
