Portable water heaters are energy-efficient and cost-effective

Keeping clean on a week-long wilderness trek can be a frustrating experience for many campers. Streams and lakes suitable for bathing can be hard to come by, and are often too cold to even contemplate taking a quick dip in. Public showers at municipal campgrounds can be even worse, offering grimy conditions and long wait lines. But luckily, propane-operated devices like the EccoTemp Portable Tankless Water Heater offer a mobile hot shower that can be deployed in any situation.

The device is fueled by propane, so the only electricity it requires is an ignition spark provided by two D-batteries. It can easily be mounted on a tree, cabin or even the back of an RV, and includes an adjustable shower nozzle for added convenience. Though it requires an external water source like an LP tank or garden hose, the water heater will provide an unending supply of hot water (from 80 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit) as long as the propane fuel lasts.
