Keeping your home safe while travelling in your RV

Individuals who spend a lot of time away from their brick-and-mortar homes while they're out travelling in their RVs often do a lot of preparing on the home front for their excursions. They stop their mail service or have it forwarded to their destination, they have a friend or neighbor agree to check on their homes and they install timers on their indoor and outdoor lights to create the illusion that someone's home. A new device, called FakeTV, goes a step further to keep homes safe when no one is home.

FakeTV uses LED lights to create the light emitted by real televisions. The device fills a room with light in thousands of possible shades of color and simulates scene changes, fades, swells, and on-screen motion. From outside, it looks just like someone is home watching TV.

The FakeTV unit is about the size of a coffee cup and has a built-in light sensor that turns it on when the light begins to fade. It has an internal timer as well that allows users to choose how long they want the device running.
