Industry changes create need for trained hospitality workers

February 2010 RV Industry and Lifestyle by

Changes in the RV park and campground industry have created the need for more qualified managers and staffers, according to the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC).

Many privately-owned RV parks and campgrounds are offering resort-like experiences ranging from top-notch entertainment and activities to luxury cabins and maid service. While these changes have been positive for the industry as a whole, they've also created the need for more and better trained workers.

"It's a constant struggle for our members to find the managers and support staff who have the training and experience they need to know how to deliver a top notch guest experience," said Linda Profaizer, ARVC's president and CEO.

Profaizer notes that many in the hospitality industry don't realize that there are hospitality, entertainment and management job opportunities in the private park sector, known as the outdoor hospitality business.

The ARVC has taken several steps to combat this. It's created a national job listings section on its website, developed a fast track park management training program, called The National School of RV Park and Campground Management, and has partnered with some universities to develop park management and guest service training programs.

The need for qualified outdoor hospitality workers is expected to remain high as many park owners are retiring and selling their parks to new owners.ADNFCR-2712-ID-19609499-ADNFCR
