RV parks are in high demand in many areas of northwest Louisiana and east Texas. Temporary workers staying in the areas while working on what's known as the Haynesville Shale have helped to boost the economy as well as cause a significant housing shortage.
The Haynesville Shale is a rock formation containing oil and gas located approximately 10,500 to 13,000 feet below the surface in northwest Louisiana and east Texas. The field is yet to be defined but some have said that it will be the fourth largest gas field in the world.
According to the Shreveport Times, RV parks in the area are operating at full capacity and many have even expanded to try to keep up with demand. Hotels, motels and rental homes are also serving as homes away from home for the many oil and gas workers.
"Everything that is available is full. Even the yards to put equipment on," realtor Susan Tatum told the newspaper. "I'd be willing to say every piece of available land has been grabbed up and being used for something."
