National Park Junior Ranger Day planned

The National Park Service has announced that Saturday, April 24 will be Junior Ranger Day.

Kids at various parks will be able to take part in the Junior Ranger program by participating in kid-friendly activities. They'll also receive a certificate, patch or pin for their efforts.

Junior Ranger Day is part of National Park Week, which runs from April 17 through April 25. During this time, admission fees to all 392 national parks will be waived. Normally, 146 parks charge entrance fees ranging from $3 to $25.

In addition, many national park concessioners are offering special promotions. Some parks will also offer additional family friendly activities and special offers on tours, lodging, food and souvenirs. A listing of parks and promotions will be available at nps.gov/npweek.

"We are rolling out the red carpet and inviting everyone to visit a national park and help celebrate National Park Week," said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

The fee waiver for National Park Week does not include other fees collected in advance or by contractors - such as fees charged for camping, reservations and use of concessions.ADNFCR-2712-ID-19709034-ADNFCR
