The state of Florida has proclaimed June as RV and Camping Month.
The proclamation was initiated by both the Florida RV Trade Association (FRVTA) and the Florida Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds. It was recently signed by state Senator Mike Haridopolos.
"We wanted to promote the RV Centennial here in Florida," said FRVTA Executive Director Lance Wilson. "We thought a proclamation was a great way to kick off our promotion of the 100-year anniversary of the industry. We are also planning displays and events at the welcome centers and are working with the Tin Can Tourists for vehicles for television and newspaper coverage."
The proclamation points out that the state of Florida constantly ranks as the nation's best and most popular recreational vehicle and camping destination and that more than 5 million people camp in Florida each year, generating more than $5 billion for the state's economy. In addition, 20 percent of all auto visitors to Florida either camp or travel in a recreational vehicle.
The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association is also working to have June declared RV Centennial Celebration Month with a proclamation from both President Obama and Congress.
