Tips for camping with kids

Whether you're taking your first or your fiftieth camping trip with kids, camping with little ones often takes a bit of planning in advance.

Starting out close to home or even camping out on your own property is often a good idea for first-time campers. This will help youngsters get used to the idea of sleeping away from home and will also help you realize which supplies you'll need before going on a more elaborate trip.

Planning the trip together can ensure everyone will be entertained and satisfied with it. Once you choose a destination, you can discuss which activities you'll do.

Packing for kids can be a challenge as well. A larger-than-normal supply of clothing as well as options for rain and cool nights is usually necessary. Bathing suits, sporting gear, toys and games may also make the trip more enjoyable. Bug spray and sunscreen are often needed too, especially for long days spent outside exploring.
