NASCAR extends recycling program

April 2010 NASCAR News by
Print   |   Email
NASCAR, which already has the largest event recycling program in sports, is expanding its efforts.

The racing organization currently offers bottle and can recycling in the grandstands, concourse, suites and garages through a partnership with Coca-Cola. Last year alone, NASCAR recycled more than 80 tons and 2.5 million containers.

The recycling program will now be expanded to the campgrounds and will also include cardboard and ink cartridge recycling.

In addition to working with Coca-Cola, NASCAR will also partner with Coors Light, Office Depot and UPS.

Office Depot will pilot the ink and toner cartridge recycling program and UPS will pilot a new at-track cardboard recycling initiative throughout the 2010 season.

Coors Light will work with Coca-Cola Recycling to begin piloting a recycling program at the campgrounds. NASCAR says this is a critical component going forward, since approximately one third of recyclable material at the track comes from the campgrounds.

"NASCAR and its partners share a strong commitment to preserving the environment, and operating in an environmentally responsible way," said Mike Lynch, managing director of Green Innovation for NASCAR. "Each of these Fortune 500 companies are coming together to take on components of the recycling process relevant to their businesses. Together with our partners, we'll continue to make a real difference."ADNFCR-2712-ID-19737868-ADNFCR
