RVIA: RVing is a cost-efficient travel alternative

The summer travel season is quickly approaching and the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) is urging travelers to consider RVing as an alternative to flying, driving and staying in hotels.

The RVIA says that travelling in an RV eliminates airline passenger fees for luggage, fuel surcharges, meals and in-flight entertainment. It also helps travelers avoid flight delays and airport gridlock.

"Travelers leave all the hassles behind when they go by RV,'' said RVIA president Richard Coon. ''What they don't leave behind are all the comforts of home."

A recent study by international travel and tourism experts PKF Consulting found that family RV trips are, on average, 27 to 61 percent less expensive than other types of vacations. Respondents to a recent RVIA survey agreed. Almost 82 percent of owners said they save anywhere from 15 to 75 percent by traveling in their RVs.

"In this economy, the affordability of RV vacations is especially attractive whether you rent or own,'' says Coon. ''And there's never been a better time to buy."

Renting an RV can help individuals learn whether the lifestyle is right for them. Major rental companies are already reporting strong bookings for the summer travel season.
