RVIA president discusses industry trends

June 2010 RV Industry and Lifestyle by
Print   |   Email
Recreational Vehicle Industry Association president Richard Coon outlined several trends that will affect the industry going forward during the group's annual members meeting last week.

"These are important items and trends that need to be considered as the RV industry moves forward because they will play a factor in our continued success," said Coon.

Coon said that the industry will have to remain cognizant of the environmental movement and government regulations going forward. The future development of products must comply with regulations such as corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) and greenhouse gas emission standards.

In addition, he said that RV manufacturers and dealers will have to continue to focus on customer aftermarket service so problems can be remedied.

The industry will also have to work to help interest America's young people in the great outdoors in order to create a new generation of RV enthusiasts. And, as destination camping gains popularity, the industry will have to find ways to promote it.

Coon also discussed the fact that the RV industry is becoming more global.

"The RV lifestyle is no longer just a North American or European phenomenon. The industry continues to develop in China, Australia and South Africa, and this provides opportunities for the RV industry," he said.

The industry is currently recovering from the economic downturn, which resulted in mass layoffs and RV production plant closings.
