Jayco announces layoffs

September 2010 Jayco by
Print   |   Email
RV manufacturer Jayco has confirmed it has cut about 10 percent of its workforce at its Twin Falls, Idaho, plant.

The company's Twin Falls director of operations, Akos Sefcsik, told the Times-News newspaper that the company has had a good summer, but that dealers have not been replenishing their inventories and reordering what they sell.

"I'm assuming some of it has to do with the tight credit market," he told the news provider.

Officials did not disclose exactly how many employees were laid off in this move. They previously told the news source that the plant was operating with about 180 employees, however, which would mean about 18 were let go.

About 40 workers at the Idaho location were also laid off in October 2008.

Sefcsik also told the Times-News that the company will institute a two-week plant shutdown to adjust its inventories.

Jayco, which is headquartered in Middlebury, Indiana, is the largest privately-held manufacturer of recreational vehicles in North America. The company makes and markets Jayco RVs under the Jay Series, Baja, Select, Jay Flight, Jay Feather, Eagle, Octane ZX, Designer, Greyhawk, Precept, Melbourne, Seneca, Embark and Insignia nameplates. The company has nearly 1,600 employees nationally and a network of nearly 300 dealers.
