Tips for driving an RV in the rain

There's no arguing the fact that rain can negatively impact driving conditions and make staying safe on the road harder, whether you're driving a car, truck or RV. But there are things RV drivers should keep in mind when it's raining out to ensure they get from point A to point B safely.

Since rain can impact visibility, experts suggest driving with the headlights on when it's raining. Some states require headlight use during rain anyway, so you'll be adhering to the law wherever you are if you turn on the lights when the rain begins, according to RVTravel.com.

Replacing your windshield wipers at least once a year is also important to maintaining visibility.

Driving in the middle lane on a highway is another tip for navigating safely in the rain. Since the center lane is typically on higher ground than the outside lanes, water build-up that leads to hydroplaning is reduced.

Drivers should also exercise caution and slow down when it's wet out. Motorhome Magazine reminds RVers that the first few minutes of a rainstorm can be especially dangerous, as the road becomes slippery due to oil and rubber buildup on the surface.

Properly maintaining tires and replacing them when they are worn will also help you keep control when it's wet outside.
