While many RVers know the importance of choosing the right vehicle to fit their lifestyle and needs, many don't realize until it's too late that choosing the right RV dealer is important as well.

Recommendations from friends, family members and acquaintances are a great way to help you choose the right dealer. Dealers should also be willing to give you contact information for prior customers to help you confirm their reputation, according to Jeff Radich of the RVInsiderGuide.com.

Potential buyers can also learn whether or not the dealer they are considering buying from is reputable by contacting the Better Business Bureau and ensuring they are a member of the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association.

Other important things to consider when choosing a dealer include how long the dealer has been in business (under current ownership) and how long they have been selling certain RV brands. RV.net points out that a long business history and ongoing relationships with reputable RV brands may indicate that dealers stand behind the products they sell.

Ensuring your dealer has a well-stocked parts and accessories department as well as a reputable service department is also important, since regular maintenance is necessary once you've purchased an RV.
