That took place after Thetford’s Chemical Engineering Department, headed up by Manager of Chemical Development Mary Burrows, began working in 2007 with the Environmental Protection Agency to reformulate products – making Thetford the first in the industry to bring DfE-recognized RV Care products to market.
Before being allowed to carry the DfE logo, product formulas are reviewed by the EPA, recognized to be in compliance with DfE requirements and to use “best-in-class” components from the CleanGredients database.
“We entered into this unique partnership to demonstrate our commitment to safety and the environment,” Burrows said. “But we did so with the assurance that these products also wouldn’t sacrifice performance.”
The partnership is on-going, Burrows added. Thetford continues to work with the EPA to produce even more environmentally-friendly products.
Three recommendations
Thetford also makes these recommendations to help improve RV Care cleaning:
• Utilize a “top-down” process to properly maintain your RV. Clean the uppermost part of your RV – the roof – then work down to the lower areas – tires, for example. This allows the cleaning solutions used at the top to do some of the work by “washing down” below and prevents the need to “clean over” areas that have already been worked on.
