Sea Rim State Park to make upgrades for RV travelers

After riding out Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Rita, motorhome owners on the Gulf coast are finally ready to remove the covers from their vehicles and hit the open road. In an effort to attract RV travelers, Sea Rim State Park in Sabrine Pass, Texas, will make renovations to repair storm damage, according to The Record Live.

Park superintendent Tracy Ferguson told the news source that visitors will now have both vehicle and on-foot access to the beach. The boardwalk at the campground has also been restored, and travelers will be able to ride horses down the coastline between December and February for the first time in Sea Rim State Park history.

More than 15 pull-through motorhome sites will be provided with electricity, running water and wastewater hook-ups. An unloading area for individuals with horses will also be available.

"The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will reconstruct park roads and parking lots for day-use visitors," the Infrastructure Division's TxDOT program manager Darrell Owens told the news source. "Roadway construction is scheduled to begin in the late summer of 2012."

A family of four can save an average of 74 percent by vacationing in a motorhome, according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association.
