Lakewood named top RV campground

Motorhome owners who are pulling the covers off of their vehicles to travel through South Carolina may want to consider staying at the Lakewood Camping Resort.

Recently, the recreational vehicle campground was awarded the title of 2010-11 Park of the Year by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, according to the Sun News. After losing the title by one point in 2008, the RV park's staff made it their mission to bring Lakewood to the top of the list.

"From that point I challenged our staff to go all out to win this award," Lakewood owner and chairman Shannon Gomer told the news source.

The campground has made a number of upgrades, including renovations to the indoor pool. Lakewood has also added a pizza delivery service and a coffee house.

The award was presented at the annual ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lakewood was honored in the category of large recreational vehicle parks, containing 500 or more camp sites.

Spending three days at a campground in a motorhome costs an average of $647, according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association. Modern accommodations, such as those added by Lakewood, continue to attract economically efficient travelers from across the country.
