Camping World sponsors UnMet Needs program

January 2009 RV News by

Throughout the 2008 NASCAR season, Camping World has shown their support for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) by sponsoring their UnMet Needs program on an at-track level. The UnMet Needs program provides financial and other assistance to recent veterans in hardship, upon their return home from serving our country. Camping World proudly partnered with the VFW to take this program “full throttle” by supplying a NASCAR infield camping experience, complete with a fully stocked RV, to UnMet Needs families at multiple tracks across the country. During these weekends, VFW Racing treats the family to hospitality and race tickets to round out the action-packed NASCAR weekend.

While being able to give back to those who have served our country is always rewarding, Atlanta’s October race brought a special “family” to the track. Veteran Sean Long and his VetDog “Mickey” made the trip. Injured in Iraq, Sean is now a National Outreach Representative for Vet Dogs, “Veteran’s K-9 Corps.” VetDogs is a new program from the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. which was created in 1946. Their mission is to “help those who have served our country honorably to live with dignity and independence, whether they are visually impaired or have other special needs, by using guide dogs, service dogs, and innovative technologies.“ Amazingly, these services are provided at no cost to veterans.

Sean and “Mickey” are certainly a testament to what these dogs can do, as “Mickey” appeared to enjoy the garage tours as much as the next race fan! For more information on VetDogs, visit www.VetDogs.org.
