Free Wi-Fi available at many RV resorts, campgrounds

November 2009 RV Industry and Lifestyle by

Many RVers depend on their computers to keep up with their daily lives. They email family and friends to stay in touch, pay bills online and even research and map their trips with their laptops while on the road. Traditionally, they've taken advantage of the free wireless internet access, or Wi-Fi, everywhere from restaurants and cafes to airports and retail stores. But now RV resorts and campgrounds are becoming a hot spot for this modern convenience as well.

Many computer-savvy RVers even expect parks to offer free internet access. While offering Wi-Fi to visitors can cost RV park owners as much as $2,500 per month in some cases there are several companies that now offer the service for free.

RVers who are looking for wireless internet access need to know a few things before logging on, however. Individuals should ask before checking in whether free Wi-Fi is available since some resorts do charge for it. Several websites, like www.wififreespot.com offer lengthy lists of free "hotspots" by state.

According to your-rv-lifestyle.com, a computer with an 802.11 Wi-Fi card or adapter should get you online in the comfort of your own RV. However, the speed and range of the reach will vary depending on the specific network and configuration at a given park.
