Getting there is half the fun, at least in an RV
RV enthusiasts know that taking the trip can be just as exciting as reaching the final destination. But there are some things that can help make your travels safer and more memorable, according to HGTV.com.
The key to a successful trip is to plan ahead. Know where you're going, how to get there and where you'll set up camp before you leave home. The internet provides a wealth of information on everything from directions and tourist attractions to RV campgrounds and weather conditions. Travel guides, state tourism boards and RV magazines can also be great resources, as can a GPS system in your vehicle, according to RV expert Mark Polk.
Take a pre-trip once-over of your RV before hitting the road. This will help you identify and correct any problems that could jeopardize your safety on the road.
Polk suggests taking plenty of breaks while driving and not trying to cover too much distance at one time. Driving should be limited to five or six hours, or about 350 miles each day. Take turns with the driving responsibilities as well and remember not to eat too much when you stop for a food since a heavy meal may make you tired.
