NASCAR heads to Martinsville

Fresh off a win at Bristol, driver Jimmie Johnson heads to the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia for next weekend's Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500 - a race he won last year as well.

Fans of the sport may already know that Martinsville is the only original NASCAR-sanctioned track still running Cup Series events. The track is oval and its configuration has not changed since its inaugural race in 1948.

Known as the "pretty paperclip," Martinsville is known for its tailgating and great hot dogs in addition to the racing action.

The majority of the campsites at the speedway are general admission and can be purchased upon arrival at the track. They open the Saturday a week prior to race day at 8 a.m.

Reserved camping sites are located in the backstretch, Turn 3 and near the campground entrance. To reserve a campsite, you must be on the renewal ticketing system for both Nextel Cup events at the Martinsville Speedway. The North Lot is a reserved camping area for one Nextel Cup event only and is non-renewable.

No hook-ups are available on site.
