Campgrounds hosting holiday activities

Many campgrounds are fostering holiday spirit among their guests with activities and entertainment ranging from caroling hayrides and potluck dinners to fireworks displays and New Year's celebrations.

These activities are especially popular at campgrounds that cater to snowbirds, according to RVDailyReport.com.

"We're seeing more and more campgrounds, RV parks and resorts developing activities and special events to keep their guests entertained through the holidays," said Linda Profaizer, president and CEO of the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.

She adds that besides fun, these activities provide guests with an opportunity to get to know each other and feel like a part of a community.

While many holiday activities are geared towards adults - like dinner dances, potlucks and New Year's champagne toasts - there are also many family-friendly activities for people traveling with children during the holidays. In fact, a recent study found that typical RV vacations are up to 75 percent less expensive per day than any other type of family trip.

Some campgrounds are hosting holiday decorating contests, sports and recreation tournaments, and bonfires. The Campland on the Bay in San Diego is even hosting separate New Year's Eve parties for adults and children with a fireworks display over the bay following them.
