Keeping your RV's exterior clean

Cleaning the outside of your RV is a must-do part of owning a recreational vehicle. There are some tips for keeping your home away from home clean without extreme work or expensive products.

Dirt, road tar and bugs can damage the finish if left untended. Consult your owner's manual for your manufacturer's suggestions on which cleaner is best, but whenever possible choose one that will help preserve the finish of your RV.

RV experts say start with the roof and work your way down to avoid streaking. Warm water is best since hot water can discolor paint or harm the finish. Try adding about a third of a cup of white vinegar to diluted cleaning solution can help boost the cleaning power and avoid water spots as well.

Although it's a bit of an investment, a portable pressure washer that can be used to clean your entire RV exterior without extra cleaning supplies.

Remember to use soft, all-natural fibers on the exterior of your RV as well. Never use polyester or microfiber cloths to clean it since they can damage the finish.

It may not be a job you look forward to, but keeping the outside of your RV clean can keep it looking good for years and can boost the resale value if you ever want to sell it.
