Jayco grows from its humble beginnings in Indiana
When people think of reliable motorhomes and travel trailers, many of them think of Jayco. This company, which has been in business since 1967, has become a mainstay in the industry and continues to provide campers with the vehicles they need to reconnect with the great outdoors.
Jayco was developed by Lloyd Bontrager, who had previous experience working for an RV manufacturing company prior to starting his own. Bontrager quickly became unsatisfied with the variety of RVs on the market, provoking him to begin his own company on a small farm in Indiana.
After many experiments, Bontrager determined that he could create a pop-up trailer that could meet the demands of Baby Boomers itching to hit the open road. The rest was history from there on- Bontrager hired his first employee in 1968 and began operating Jayco to serve the needs of campers across the country.
Today, approximately 1,200 people work for Jayco, which manufactures and distributes RVs throughout the United States. The company makes approximately $200 million in sales annually, according to Funding Universe, proving how far Jayco has come since its humble beginnings.
