Tips for cleaning the exterior of your RV
An RV is a major investment and must be maintained from the inside out to retain its value. One of the necessary maintenance duties for RV owners is cleaning the exterior of the vehicle. There are some tips that RV experts suggest for making this often dreaded job go quickly and provide great results.
Like washing a car, you should try to wash the outside of your RV on a cloudy day or in a shady spot to avoid any streaking or spotting. Start on top and work your way down and don't forget that dirt on the roof will eventually make it down the sides of the vehicle so remember to wash the roof, if possible.
You should use a good washing and waxing product as well. These are available through your dealer or online - there are many to choose from. If you want to take a more natural approach to cleaning your RV, try a solution of baking soda and warm water. For tough stains, you can make this solution more paste-like. Experts recommend using warm water in general to avoid discoloring paint or finishes.
If you notice a chip or scratch in your RV's paint, try using a similarly-colored wax crayon to repair it. Just rub the crayon over the scratch and buff with a clean cloth.
Bugs, grease and road dirt can cake onto the exterior of your vehicle and make the job longer and harder. Try using a spray cooking oil to loosen the debris. Simply spray it on, wait about 10 minutes and wash normally. You can also try WD-40 as an alternative to commercial bug and tar remover.
