Choosing the right portable Honda® generator to meet all your recreational needs is easy. For RVers, the power needs of your air conditioner determines what size generator you need. Your air conditioner’s power needs may vary, based on the ambient temperature and how efficiently your air conditioner uses power. A Honda EU3000i will power most 13,500 BTU air conditioners; larger air conditioners may require two EU2000i models connected with parallel cables. For motorhomes and 5th wheels with two air conditioners, the EU6500i may be required.
Choose a generator with enough power to spare after starting and running the air conditioner to operate lights, electronics and appliances you may want to use. To check the power requirements of other electric accessories, look for the amps the appliance uses and convert to watts using this formula: Watts = Amps x Volts. Remember that appliances with electric motors require more power to start up than to run, and allow for those needs. And not all electric accessories or appliance have to run at the same time; you may be able to use a smaller generator by managing power needs wisely.
For campers, boaters and tailgaters, an EU1000i or a single EU2000i will handle most of your power needs for lights, blender, coffee maker, TV/DVD and other electric accessories. Calculate the wattage needed for all the accessories you will use at the same time, and select a Honda generator with at least that much power and a bit to spare.
