Football fans Super Bowl-bound in rented RVs

Some New Orleans Saints fans are heading to see their team play against the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl in Miami this month using rented RVs.

Arty Lawson of Motorhome Rentals of Louisiana tells WDSU-TV that demand for RVs has jumped since the Saints made the Super Bowl.

"My phone hasn't stopped ringing since after the game ended," said Lawson, who has been renting out motor homes since 1978. "A half hour after the game ended it started ringing and then it started again at 5 in the morning."

Lawson told the TV station that he's sold out of his 29 rentals, which range in price from $200 per day to $500 per day for Super Bowl weekend.

He said travelers should expect to spend an extra $800 to get to Miami and back to watch the big game, between insurance fees and required security deposits.

Sun Life Stadium in Miami doesn't allow tailgating for the Super Bowl and says that RV parking is not permitted so travelers should plan ahead. Some people in Miami are selling parking spaces for the game on Craigslist.
