2010 census tips for full-time RVers

The federal government is in the process of conducting the 2010 census in order to get an accurate count of how many people are living in our communities, states and country as a whole. While people with a permanent address have already received their census forms, full-time RVers may have missed getting a form or being counted by a census worker.

While census workers are travelling to transitory locations such as RV parks, campgrounds, hostels, hotels, motels and other places to count people, many may still miss being accounted for if they aren't around when the census representative is there.

RVers who have not received a form or been counted in person should consider calling the census hotline to find out where to get a form. The hotline number is (866) 872-6868.

Determining how to fill the form out may also be challenging for full-time RVers. The census website, 2010.census.gov, states that individuals should be "counted at the residence where they live and sleep most of the time. If there is no residence where they live and sleep most of the time, they are counted where they live and sleep more than anywhere else. If time is equally divided, or if usual residence cannot be determined, they are counted at the place where they are staying on Thursday, April 1, 2010 (Census Day)."
