RVs provide affordable family vacations

Many families are turning to RVs to help them take great vacations together and save a lot of money over a traditional trip.

The Fagnant family of Sandwich, Massachusetts, told the Cape Cod Times newspaper that their RV has allowed them to take several trips with their three children each year. Their Jayco travel trailer serves as a home on wheels for their outings.

"For the payment on a trailer, at least we can use it all year long," Jennifer Fagnant told the newspaper. "Plane fare would only be for one trip."

Experts say families need to consider a few things before buying an RV for family vacations since the vehicles come in all shapes and sizes.

If you want a travel trailer, make sure your current vehicle can tow it. Otherwise, you'll have the additional expense of renting or buying a car or truck with enough towing capacity every time you want to get away.

Brian Sullivan, manager of a Raynham, Massachusetts RV dealer told the newspaper that layout is important when shopping for RVs.

"Many parents are looking for an RV with a bunk room at one end, especially for older kids, and their bedroom at the other end. They want bump-out rooms to maximize the internal space for comfort and floor space for kids to play and loads of storage," he said.
