Don't let gas prices get in the way of your RV trip
AAA reports that gas prices have increased an average of 56 cents per gallon since last Memorial Day. But higher fuel prices shouldn't stand in the way of your next RV trip, according to Carol White, co-author of the book "Live Your Road Trip Dream."
"I don't like the higher prices either, but if you take a realistic look at it, it's something that most of us can deal with," she said.
White says that even when gas prices are higher, they shouldn't deter a road trip. For example, if you're paying 75 cents more per gallon over last year and your vehicle gets 23 miles per gallon, your fuel will cost about $32 more for a 1,000 mile trip. Cutting out a dinner out while on the road will cover that $32 and allow you to still enjoy the trip.
Other ways to save to offset fuel increases include cutting out daily coffee purchases, bringing lunches to work instead of buying, and eliminating unnecessary purchases. White says travelers shouldn't let the "psychology of price" get the best of them.
White also points out that RV vacations remain more affordable than traditional trips and that staying in your vehicle and preparing meals in the RV help keep overall vacation costs down.
