Summer RV rentals booming
Many American families will be hitting the roads in rental RVs and motor homes this summer, according to dealers.
The News Tribune newspaper in Washington state reports that local RV dealers say their entire rental fleets are booked for the summer season.
"People want to take their family camping," John Ramsey, owner of Broadmoor RV & Truck Center, told the newspaper.
Contributing to the increase in demand for rentals is the improving economy and relatively stable gas prices.
In addition, RV vacations tend to be more cost-effective for families. A survey done by the international travel and tourism research firm PKF Consulting found that a typical family can save anywhere from 27 percent to 61 percent by taking an RV vacation, compared to other types of vacations.
In addition to being able to avoid paying for a place to stay while away from home, many individuals enjoy the fact that an RV vacation offers them a way to get from point A to point B on their own timetable, without the hassles of airport security and potential delays.
The convenience of an on-board kitchen can also help cost-conscious travelers who don't want to spend a lot of extra money on restaurant meals.
Dealers say many renters may end up eventually buying an RV, trailer or motor home of their own, too.
