For example, avoiding scented soaps, body lotions, shampoos and other hair products may help, but this method is even more effective when paired with using insect repellent or other natural bug deterrents and wearing long-sleeved clothing.
Natural products believed to help keep bugs away include spraying vinegar, eating onions and/or garlic, taking zinc or vitamin B supplements and using coconut soap or coconut oil.

Experts suggest insect repellents with DEET for maximum effectiveness to keep mosquitoes and ticks away.
Using citronella candles or products like Repel Camp Fogger may also be helpful.
