State park gift cards offered for holiday season
Just in time for the holiday shopping rush, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is offering gift cards for use in any of the state's 72 state parks and recreation areas.
The cards, which are available in any amount from $10 to $1,000, can be purchased online at www.stayatmnparks.com, by calling 1-866-85-PARKS or by visiting any state parks during their office hours.
The gift cards feature a picture of the High Falls at Grand Portage State Park, the state's highest waterfall. They can be used for state park vehicle permits, canoe, kayak, snowshoe and snowtube rentals, camping or overnight stays in cabins or suites and for any items in the state park gift shops.
"The gift card is another way to help people connect to Minnesota’s great outdoors," said DNR Commissioner Mark Holsten. "Ideally, we think people will give Minnesota state parks gift cards to their children or grandchildren with a promise to take them fishing or canoeing or snowshoeing. The memories of spending time together will last a lifetime, and the experience will help introduce the next generation to the fun of outdoor recreation," he added.
Vehicle permits are required to enter Minnesota state parks. A one-day permit costs $5. Year-round permits cost $25 and provide unlimited access to Minnesota state parks for twelve months from the month of purchase.
