I ordered 3 slide toppers online with black hardware and black metal weather shield. They were ordered on April 29th. I got the hardware 2 weeks later in black. A week after that I got 2 toppers with white weather shield and called Camping World. They said when ordering online that the weather shield defaults back to polar white. The next day another associate called me telling me it was my fault. Really? I told them if I cancel my order will I get the shipping refunded. She said no. I told her that the toppers were ordered on my part correctly so if I cancel why I responsible for shipping? I am done with Camping World. I will not renew membership.
I had two Dometic slide covers installed last January. Large cover hung up after a rain and bent mounting brackets. Went to Camping World Louisiana and they were 6 weeks out on work. Suggested I add spacer (which I did) and it did not help. Ordered new brackets and worked better, but still not right. Bent second set of brackets within two months. Called and said they had straightened the brackets and put back on. Cover still has no clearance, service tech agreed I need to take it off, they did not know how to make it work on this slide. The metal road shield press the cover down on the slide frame as it goes out and you have to push out by hand. The small cover seems to be OK, Large cover to flat and holds to much water after rains.
Gave 3 stars but haven't received them yet. Let a local dealer order them for me at
hiked up prices because wife assumes I'll screw it up. 3 stars because I have a
taupe/tam colored rv and the only awning color options, according to dealer was black
or white. I wanted a tan or champagne color awning to match the camper and patio
awning. Now I have ordered black hardware with white awning. Makes no sense not to
offer a nuetral colored fabric.
We agree! No installation instructions unless you take the lap top, IPOD, or what have you
outside and follow along with Mr. It Is So Easy and his Side Kick, Mr. Easy Jr. Now that
we've completed three installations we have it down pretty good. Ordering is another thing
altogether. When you get to the part about the canopy - it asks you about the color choice.
The instructions actually ask you for canopy color???? What they're really asking is the
hardware color choice. How hard would it be to change that wording? Three orders later,
and three phone calls from Dometic, we know they are not asking the canopy color, but the
actual hardware color. As this is a special order item, we get a little shakey wondering just
what in the heck they will send us. While this is not Camping World's problem, as the go
to guy, they need to let Dometic know their Technical Writer needs to go back to first
It would have been nice if the manufacturer included installation instructions with this
purchase. I realize there was a video, however, this video was not complete. NO
instruction on how to mount the mounting brackets or how to install the anti billow device.
The first 12.5 foot slide topper was delivered, but severely damaged by the carrier. Camping World was immediately
notified and processed a new order. The second one arrived safe and sound (about 10 days). Upon removal from the long
shipping tube, I found that the manufacturer had failed to include any installation instructions (none at all).
And, I could find no installation instructions on line. But, since I am a die hard do-it-yourselfer, I persisted and
watched the handy on line-video (YouTube) and figured it out. Please note that those guys used scaffolding, while I
used a ladder. Miraculously, I installed it completely by myself. It works fine and no one was hurt in the process. You really should have someone to help you, especially when you are about to slide it into the track. You will also need an industrial grade pop riveter to install those super heavy duty pop rivets.
After reading these reviews I’ve concluded that a swivel dust mop will do the job just as good (maybe better) than this expensive and ify solution. I just run the mop over the top of the slide, from ground level, before running it in, worked fine and I had a ton of leaves and twigs after 70 mile an hour wind in Oklahoma City. I’m 6’4” so I can use to mop easily, if shorter you may have to add an extension to
the mop handle. Always works and the wind is not a concern.
I have an 2003 model Forest River Windsong, that had this installed. It looked fun, but until a good wind came along,
it delaminated, also. I can't believe it. This is my first RV and I would have thought that things would last much longer. Now, I have this nice RV, but that slidetop cover just flaps around.........I guess the sun beats the
laminated sections so hard that it comes apart. I am in Texas and it hasn't been THAT hot lately. Thank god I am some sort of a handyman. I am going to replace the fabric on it.
The fabric does not seem to be tough enough. In three years it
appears cracked and I had to have one repaired because of tearing at
the bead edge where it fastens in slot on RV. Also two of three
tensioner devices have broken off. They flap a lot in Gulf winds.
I have cleaned and treated per recomendations.
I had an A&E Topper cover installed on my TT, at Camping World, 3 years ago, and it has shrunk, tore, and delaminated...
I'm very upset, as Camping World, will ONLY install another WHOLE NEW one, at a greater cost than the one 3 years ago....
I called A&E customer service, and they said there had been some shrinking problems with the product, but only offered to sell me a replacement vinyl fabric + S&H....
I don't think I want a vinly fabric, IF it's going to continue to delaminate...
NOT happy with the situation, and don't know what to do just yet!!!!
Just installed 4 of them with the help of family and a nieghbor. They were delivered for free 3 days after ordering ! WOW ! Everything was there and in good shape. I do wish the edges were a little more finished, then any fraying problem would go away. One important installation hint. When you are ready to pull the cotter pins, rotate the tube slightly till they are loose.I learned the hard way by getting one jammed in and broke off inside the tube. It took a couple hours of surgery to get it out.
We ordered 2 slide toppers for our 5th wheel, they were delivered right to our door straight from the factory. The easy to read instructions made them simple to install. We are pleased with the quality of this product. Now we don't have to worry about debris or rain on our slides. The big bonus was the money we saved
I had 3 of these awnings installed at Camping World several months ago. They work just as advertized. The greatest benefit is their ability to quiet the inside of the RV during rain storms. We spend most of our time in Florida and the rain is frequent and torrential. Sleeping with ones head in a slide out during a storm is difficult. With the topper in place, it is no problem. Also, they keep trash off the top of the slides. Retracting the slide while it is raining, is no problem, because the top of the slide will be almost dry. We also think the RV stays cooler on hot days since we installed the slide toppers.

Does it matter how far out the slide extends?
by PatDecember 10, 2012
The only measurement that we would need is the length. Dometic bases the depth off the length you select.
