BrakeBuddy Vantage Select is the ONLY portable auxiliary braking system that allows you to choose between full and proportional braking "on the fly", at the touch of a button, without leaving the driver’s seat.
Full Braking removes the entire weight of the towed vehicle from your motorhome when stopping.

Proportional Braking mirrors the braking action of the motorhome, braking at the same rate that you brake the motorhome.

We purchased the brake buddy vantage select and found it easy to set up. This product would be excellent if it did what the manufacturer says it is supposed to. But on our first road trip it frequently deployed the brake arm in our tow vehicle even when our motor home wasn't braking (even with it being set at the low 2 setting). We ending up dragging the tow vehicle for an undisclosed distance, damaging the brake pads. We sent it back to the manufacturer for a repair. But after trying to use the returned repaired Brake Buddy, the unit would not complete the 5 cycle start sequence to prepare it for use. So the Brake Buddy could not be used. We returned it to the manufacturer who sent it back (presumably repaired) with a 12V battery direct power connection for exclusive use to guarantee adequate power to the unit. After installing the new direct battery power source and setting up the Brake Buddy, we had the same problem as before. The unit would not complete the 5-cycle setup for use. So we were still unable to use it and am now returning it to the manufacturer for the third time for another repair. We are ready to give up on the Brake Buddy. We are very disappointed.
Pros: Set-Up is quick and easy
Cons: System does not work

After reading the negative review posted, with no other reviews by users, it makes this quality product look bad, and it isn't. I moved up from our BrakeBuddy Classic to the Vantage Select after the compressor failed on the Classic after many years of service. Things wear out, and I have nothing bad to say about our old Classic, it worked perfectly for years and thousands of miles. And, our new Vantage Select is even better, easier to set up for the road, the button to remove the brake system vacuum is pushed just once, not five times, like we did with the Classic, sensitivity is easier to set, and can be changed while driving using the new and improved remote control.
Pros: Set-Up is quick and easy, Improved remote control

I purchased this one to replace an aging and failing Roadmaster Brake Pro (about 20 yrs old, so no complaints there). I couldn't believe how easy the Brake Buddy Vantage Select was to set up. The device came well padded in the box with no loose parts, just real noisy packaging material (little cardboard squares). Everything you need is included. It is a lot lighter than my old Brake Pro with far fewer needed electrical connections. The only hassle is the breakaway switch, which is required with any system including the old one. I just replaced the old one for the new one. There was really nothing else to install or change. Nothing connects to the brake lights or any other wiring! There are no needed relays or diodes. You need to know the weight of your towed vehicle (that was listed on my registration, not in the car's instruction book!). You apply the clamp to the brake pedal (which clamps onto any size brake pedal securely, no slots to line up or clevis pins to insert) and plug the power cord into the car's 12V outlet, set the brake pressure the first time (based on the vehicle weight, the weight chart being on the Brake Buddy device), test it in manual mode to line it up with the front of the driver's seat and, finally, press Autostart. They say that you can tow your car that way for 3 days without having to recharge the vehicle's battery (I don't know about that so I usually plug it into a 12V socket attached to a deep cycle 24D battery sitting on the passenger floor in a battery box). The remote is awesome. It just lies on the RV's dash on a non-skid pad. You can adjust how the device brakes with the remote that works off of a single AA battery or you can plug it in to a 12V outlet if you prefer. Installation was so simple that I kept reading the instructions over and over telling myself that I must be missing something. I wasn't.
Pros: Set-Up is quick and easy, You never have any extras to connect
