Bought these after losing my sewer hose. Claims to fit 4 x 4
bumpers, but if your bumper is of extruded aluminum it
probable won't fit properly. On mine it is very deformed but
somewhat better than nothing. If I had it to do over I would
just buy the OEM caps and secure them with screws.
I have a travel trailer and kept losing the end caps. After loosing 4 I
saw this and decided to try it. If you install these with the provided
sheet metal screws, they work great. All I can say is these worked
great for me and solved my problem.
Great idea! Instead of using the provided attachment screws though, I drilled 1/8 holes in the bumper and used rivets. The shorter rivets will not impede inserting or removing the sewer hose. Now with the hinged bumber hatches installed, I won't have to worry about the old caps falling out and losing yet another sewer hose.
The included instructions to just screw in the screws were
kind of silly. All they do is push out the sides, and only
loosely hold the hatch on.
However, getting some metal-capable drill bits at Walmart
soon remedied that. Then easily screws in, seems reasonable
secure, though one side doesn't seem like it is as securely
held by it's little latch as the other. Will know the first
time I'm on the freeway or fast highway....
Bought and installed these. Placement of screws wasn't ideal. It interfered with the insertion of the hose. I had to cut the excess portion of screws inside the bumper.
After modifications I have been pleased with the product. The flaps stay snapped shut. Can't loose them since they are screwed in unlike other covers or plugs.
The OEM bumper plugs were working their way out every few hours and we needed something better to keep from loosing hoses.. I purchased this product about a week ago, but did not put them on until yesterday evening.
As delivered, the screws were positioned such that they would block getting the sewer hose
in and out of the bumper. The screws are supposed to be self drilling; however, they would
not drill into my bumper. After I drilled pilot holes close to the bumper corners, through the
Bumper Hatch and bumper, the screws went in and held nicely.
Thus far, the Hatches latch properly and look like they will keep the sewer hoses in the
bumper. It will take a few thousand miles in 100+ degree weather and several months of
exposure to Texas sunshine to tell how well the product stands up.
I used these bumper hatches for 3 years and one hatch came open on the highway and I lost ALL of my hoses. I always snap it closed just to be sure, then it happened. I lost multiple hoses and I'm not an off road person with my trailer. The hatch, in question, does not snap closed anymore. If you buy this product be sure to add a safety clasp to keep door closed. Very disappointed.
Just purchased this item and basically am very satisfied. However, I would make 1 big suggestion to the manufacturer. Make the fitting that goes into the bumper tapered so that it will fit slightly different size bumpers. It was the exact same size as my bumper so I had to attach a couple of thin alum. angles to slide into bumper. I used rivets to secure them instead of the screws. Less chance of snagging the hose The whole installation would look so much better if they tapered slightly and would slide into bumper... but it works and I hope it will save me loss of caps and hoses and embarrassment.
I should have taken a trip with this before reviewing it the
first time. As stated before, it needs to be tapered to fit
slightly different size bumpers. Also, the latch mechanism
needs to be more secure. I had to stop several time and
close it. It is basically a good system, but needs some
refinement. I plan on attaching a small clasp to each end
so that I can be sure it won't come open. Product
definitely needs some improvement. Would not purchase it
again. Would just make my own... not a difficult project.
Easy to install. Didn't think that the screws would work,
due to being able to damage drain pipe, so I used pop
rivets instead of the screws. I saw that others that
purchase this also did that. So-far, no problems.
Excellent product at a reasonable price.
I put these on back in August after mislaying one of the originals that came with my
trailer. There had been wasps circling around that open end, so I shot a healthy dose of
wasp and hornet killer into both ends of the bumper, then pulled the hose out after about
15 minutes. Glad I did it that way, I pulled the remains of a wasp nest out with the hose. I
haven't had any insect problems since I installed these, nor have I lost any more covers.
Easy to install and they look good. I used pop rivets instead of the screws provided to install
them, the screws have sharp ends and I was concerned that the hose could catch on them. We
will see how well they will hold up to the hot Florida sun in a couple of years.
