Out of box ran for about 30 minutes then shut off. Re-started and shut off again after about 10 minutes. Was on level patio, full of oil and gas, but kept shutting off. Disconnected low oil switch wire and cured the shut off problem. I read about this problem in a previous review, and duplicated the fix. I haven't loaded it yet, just going to do the 5 hour break-in period and change the oil. This Memorial Day Weekend's camping trip will give it a real run for the money. Got the wheel kit and found the online video doesn't relate to the kit I got. The handle mount would not lock in place and rotated around. I probably will have to drill and bolt it to the frame to correct the mounting area. Other than that and the oil switch, the quality is very nice. Tires are nice quality, motor, frame and controls are simple and nice quality. For the special sale cost, this is still a great buy. Oh and the noise level is tolerable.

Started right up a second pull.Fifty feet away from trailer it was quiet.Ran the a/c and microwave at the same time no problem I am only disappointed in one thing the handle, it is worthless. Champion needs to come up with a better design for it.I would have given the generator five stars if it wasn't for the handle.

They make several models of this generator. The best one is found at tractor supply, model #46514.This Model truly puts out 3500 watts and had 120volt / 240 volt selector. You have to go online to Champion's site and review the Different models. They say 4000/3500 watts but some only produce 3000 watts. It runs my microwave a/c unit tv , in general every thing. It is very quite. It is just a great value.

    Good little generator

Right out of the package, with oil and fuel..it started on the second pull. Connected it to my 5th wheel and it ran heater, some lights and the tv with very little effort, and fairly quiet. Very pleased with it.I only gave it 4 stars because the handle of the wheel kit is a piece of junk. Every time I try to use it, it spins on the bracket for it, no matter how tight I try to get the bolts.. Outside the problem with the handle, this is a very good generator for the price and I would recommend it.

    Run time and noise level

I ran it in a residential area for three monthe no one complained it is very quiet compaired to industrial brands. If you use a GS for camping pay attention to the label stay away from industrial brand generators they are not designed to be quiet. This generator also ran for 12 hours running a 13,000 BTU ac. You can also attach a piece of sound board to each side not both ends so it can breath or else it will overheat and that helps to cut down on the noise level too to about 40 Db which is still not bad is is as quiet as a Honda even quieter than some hondas which are are louder.

    Follow-up Review

Initially reviewed this generator giving it 5 stars. Took it to a non-electric site first time, started okay, let it warm up, then it died as soon as I plugged in the cord to the RV. Couldn't get it to run at all after that. Took it home, tried again. Still no luck. Drained the gas out of the carb, tried again. No luck. Checked the oil level, which was just fine. About to take it back to Camping World, but first thought I'd unplug the oil sensor wire. Started right up, ran fine. Knowing that the oil level is good, I'll just keep it and keep an eye on the oil level, which shouldn't change at all for a very long time.

We use this tailgating and one tank of gas has lasted from about 9:00 Saturday night to late Sunday afternoon. We power our camper lights, a small heater, microwave, crock pots, decorative light strips, etc. It is very easy to start and with two people it isn't hard to move around. We don't notice it, but some of the other people tailgating think it is a little loud. One of our friends has a brand new Champion one size smaller and his is quieter. Maybe the additional watts make it louder?? Still love it!

I purchased this generator after reading all the reviews , poeple who complain about the noise level must not have no life other then to complain , I am using mine on the hunting land i hunt , first nite running it had two coyotes come within 30 feet of camper and yes the generator was running at the time we saw them , For those who don't hunt these animals are very scared to come around poeple at all , Guess cause most people around hunting and farming are always shooting at them . If looking to buy a great generator look no more you have found it , Also runs almost 12 hours on a tank of gas , Would like to see honda do that . Happy Camping and Hunting to all !

I am finishing my second camping season with my Champion generator and I am a happy camper. Starts easy and runs quiet, and I have never had any kind of problem . I just cant believe the watts you get for the price. If you are looking for a generator Champion is the only way to go. Also a winter snow storm caused a power failure and I ran my generator for four days straight to power fridges, heater, tv, and tankless water heater, You just cant beat it. Thanks Champion

    Incredible Value

Just bought it today. Don't believe the label on the oil dipstick that states the unit was shipped without oil. I added the 0.6 liter of oil and had to remove about half of it. I recommend that you add 0.1 liter at a time. They don't tell you to do this, but before firing it up, I suggest that you pull the cord several times to circulate the oil through the pump and engine. Added a gallon of gas and gave it a minute to fill the carb. Engine fired up on the first pull. Relatively quiet running too! Can't beat this for the price. I plan to build a wooden collapsible enclosure for it to reduce the sound even further. I am confident that it will work just fine. Appears to be very well built.

I purchased this generator two weeks ago to use for tailgating. My wife gets sick when she gets too hot so I purchased a 9,000btu AC to keep her cool. Fired it to use for the first time last Saturday. Didn't use the AC unit because the temp was actually good with just the fans. I powered a tv and two fans for fifteen hours straight and still had some gas left. The generator was a little loud as some reviews advised but after moving it to the front of my vehicle it was good. It was quieter than other units out there. One unit was about 100 feet away from me and it was too loud for me. I don't know what make it was but wow this generator was quiet compared to that one. It cranked on the 2nd pull. It's not a Honda but for the price this is a good unit. If it was a little quieter I would have rated it higher.

Cannot believe how good a deal this is. It started on the second pull because I forgot to set choke. Called champion about the type of oil and if I could use synthetic, very nice lady said to use regular oil for first 5hours then switch to synthetic oil. Also could not believe the delivery as I had ordered the wheels (a must) and a cover, both the UPS truck and the FOB truck were in front of my house at the same time. What are the odds!

    Juice is Juice!

Ok, I could have bought a Honda but why? This little wonder gives me the same juice and does it at about half the price. It is a simple pull start machine but I have been doing that all my life. I have never seen a chainsaw or weed wacker that had an electric start and a battery just adds weight. I have never seen a generator that couldn't be a little quieter and the same goes here but this unit is quit enough for me. I set it up so I could move it about 50 feet away from the RV and it is not an issue. If you do that, be sure and use a #10 AWG cord. I got camper cord adaptors so I am set up for close in or a ways away depending on the camp site. I did buy the wheel kit which makes it much easier to move around so spend that money from the bucks you saved by not buying that other brand. Now I do not run it full time but I have found that with the tank full and an extra 5 gallon can of gas on hand, I can run my needs for about 5 days. Of course the air conditioner always eats up a little more. And yes, it runs it just fine. All in all, this was one of my better purchases. It does the job and and does it for way less than the competition.

My wife and I have used this generator on three camping trips and it hasn't fell us yet. On the last trip we went on, a camper who was next to us came over to take a look at it. He said he was very impressed with how quite it ran. He is going to purchase him one for his next trip. It's does what you need without the big price tag!!!

    Saved us after a storm!

I bought this in the spring for when I go primitive camping with my horse trailer with living quarters. I also purchased the wheel package (definitely a must because it is heavy). The generator sat for a couple of months in my den before one day hubby decided to put it together. He wasn't that happy I had even purchased it. WELL...August 9 our house was hit by a tornado and a tree fell on our house damaging the electric and snapping the electric line. That generator saved us! It started right up, and ran like a charm. It powered my fridge and other things in the house. It ran all night on one tank of gas and still had gas in it. I loved it and so does hubby now. A great buy and it isn't that loud.

Took out of box, filled with oil and some gas and POW started right up. whoever says this is a noisy generator is too sensitive maybe. I started on a blacktop parking lot and was impressed. not super quiet but very, very civilized, much better than most.. I was impressed. Running a stand up freezer, a fridge, a 10,000BTU window unit and a sump pump with 42 tv and cable box and not missing a beat after Irene. You have to start the loads in order from highest to lowest to do this. All I can say for now is WOW! Money well spent.

I purchased this portable generator from my local Camping World store about a month ago. It was very well packaged and had no damage upon removing it from the box. I also purchased the wheel and handle kit as well. I assembled it and added oil and gas and it fired up on the 3rd pull. I hooked it up to my TT to test it under load and turned on my AC unit, followed by the refrigerator, then all of the lights, and then ran the microwave. The generator barely hiccuped when each device was turned on. It ran everything I could throw at it and the voltage output remainded steady throughout. The noise level is very acceptable for a generator of this size and price range. I will provide a follow up review after I have used this generator for a weekend of camping and give some feedback on how long it will run on a tank of gas etc... Initial feedback is that this is a great unit at a very good price point.

Received my generator, unpacked, installed wheel kit. Added oil some fuel and a few tugs of the starter cord gave this yellow champion life. Ran smooth and anxious to test its performance I hooked it to my Tvl trailer and it indeed powered up everything I asked it to do. I'm a happy camper with this item. Noise isn't as great as some I've heard.

We purchased this unit in Jan. 2011 and have used it off and on for desert camping. We love it! It's fair on the quietness scale. I was surprised by how easy it was to start and quickly it was ready to use. We've run everything from an RV a/c unit with a couple of lights at the same time to a leaf blower and vacuum out in the boonies, and it didn't even blink an eye. We bought the wheel assembly (highly recommended) and have no difficulty pulling it through sand/dirt. If you need to camp near others I would say have a muffle box ready, but otherwise it's a wonderful unit!

I bought my Champion in May 2011. Sat in box for two weeks till my son put it together with wheel kit. Then sat in garage till today. I put everything together as needed. I was in trailer my son pulled once it started, After about 10 seconds it was running normal. My wife came out of the house and walked by it her first words that thing is quiet. I was immediately hooked up my 30 amp cord and you guessed it clicked on my 15,000 btu ac. Fired right up , I am really excited to get it out and use it boon docking. I have heard Honda's and yes they are quieter but this thing is very quiet also.

    Great Choice

After a TON of research, we decided to pick up this generator. It arrived from CW quickly and after adding oil and gas, started right up halfway through the first pull! I had no experience with Gensets and thought it was a little on the noisy side until I heard one of the Coleman units running. Oh my, now that was loud and obnoxious. This champion is much quieter and refined sounding. Powered our 13.5k BTU air just fine. Also, it is a very good looking product. This uses a engine that is built from the Honda GX200 castings. There are many out there that do this as well. Champion's units however use a cast iron sleeve in the cylinder and forged (as opposed to machined) rockers. They also have an amazing Customer Service department. As was mentioned in another review, this Genset is geared towards RV use. Therefore, there is no 240v recepticle which means you cannot wire it to your house panel using a transfer switch. To run appliances in an emergancy, you would have to run a good extention cable to your fridge, window AC etc.. There is a wealth of knowledge online from other owners of these CPE units if you search for it. I'm glad I did and saved alot of money and got what I think is a superior Generator. As I mentioned before, the ship time from CW was great and the unit arrived with no damage. Also was a pleasant buying experience when we called to get a promotion that wasn't working when placing the order online.Pardon the lack of paragraphs in this review, for some reason my formatting dissapears when I post.

I have used it off and on for about two weeks and this unit will only give about 6 hours of run time. Fortunately, I have a back up Onan 7500 and this unit can out perform the Champion 4000. The generator is very noisy, I had to build a box over the generator to hold down the noise and I even used dynamat to deaden the noise, some help but not much. As a campground host, I don't want the campers complaining about my generator so I thought the 68db's would be ok, I should have purchased a Honda 3000. I have used a Honda 3000 and 6500 in campgrounds and the noise level doesn't even compare. When you have a load it will sound somewhat louder, but when the load is off it is very quiet. Unlike the Champion, it maintains a constant high RPM's, thus the noise. If you want a generator that will meet you power needs, is efficient and quiet, go with the Honda 3000ieu
