Great radios, but read the fine print!

These radios do allow clear communication over amazing distances. Forget about the cheap walkie-talkies you had as a kid, these are serious radios. They're sold as FRS radios but in actuality they're FRS/GMRS. Read the fine print in the users manual, available at Cobra's web site: A user must be licensed prior to operating on Channels 1 through 7 or 15 through 22, which comprise the GMRS channels of this radio. Serious penalties could result for unlicensed use of GMRS channels, in violation of FCC rules. So if you don't hold a GMRS license, use only the FRS-only channels 8-14 to avoid trouble with the feds.

These work very well and makes it very easy to keep track of the grandkids throughout the campground. They are also handy when backing into tight places, my wife can calmly tell me where to go.
