    What a Great Idea - September 29, 2008

Last year we traded in our travel trailer for a big 5th wheel toy hauler. The travel trailer had a regular propane oven in it. After we brought our 5th wheel home we realized that it only had a microwave convection oven in it. The convection cycle did a terrible job with baking. So, I went on-line and found this Coleman oven. There weren't any reviews at that time so I had to buy it sight unseen. Since I've had it, I've baked cakes, pies, biscuts, rolls, etc. and everything comes out fantastic. There are two downfalls . You can't get the temperature to go much below 350 degrees. (So, it can't be used to keep things warm once fried or baked.) The regulator is very sensitive and you have to watch it closely to make sure the oven stays lit. It takes quite a bit of time to get the heat to stay at a constant temperature. The other downfall is that the door can be difficult to open and close and the oven doesn't stay put when opening the door. The oven is very light and gets extremely hot so you need two oven mits when opening it; one on the door and the other one pressing down on the top of the oven so it doesn't slide. I would consider buying an upgraded version if the regular were fixed and if some anchoring system was added.
